Over/Under Betting — How Totals Markets Work
Over/under (O/U) betting lets you wager on the total goals, points, or games in a match — without picking a winner. It's one of the most popular markets at sharp bookmakers alongside asian handicap.
How Over/Under Works
The bookmaker sets a line (e.g., 2.5 goals). You bet whether the actual total will be over or under that number.
Example: Liverpool vs Arsenal, O/U 2.5 goals
- Final score 2-1 (3 goals) → Over wins
- Final score 1-0 (1 goal) → Under wins
- Half lines (.5) have no push — clean win or loss
Over/Under Line Types
Like asian handicap, O/U uses the same line system:
- Half lines (2.5, 3.5) — no push, clear outcome
- Whole lines (2, 3) — exact total = push (refund)
- Quarter lines (2.25, 2.75) — split bet, partial win/loss possible
Over/Under Strategy
- Compare O/U lines across bookmakers — one book may offer O/U 2.5 while another has O/U 2.25, giving you a different risk profile
- Track dropping totals — if the O/U line drops from 2.5 to 2.25, sharp money is betting on fewer goals
- Check team stats — use the ELO ratings and match history on AsianOdds.com to analyze scoring patterns
- Consider weather and pitch — rain and heavy pitches reduce goal totals
