What is Asian Handicap?
Asian handicap (AH) is a form of betting that eliminates the draw outcome by giving one team a goal advantage or disadvantage. Unlike traditional 1X2 betting, AH offers only two outcomes, reducing the bookmaker's margin and giving bettors better value.
Understanding Quarter Lines (-0.25, -0.75)
Quarter-line handicaps split your stake into two equal bets. For example, a -0.25 handicap is effectively half on 0 and half on -0.5. If the match is a draw, you win half your stake and get the other half refunded.
Common AH Examples
- AH -0.5 at 1.90, stake 100: Your team wins → payout 190 (+90 profit). Draw or loss → you lose 100.
- AH -1 at 1.85, stake 100: Win by 2+ → payout 185. Win by exactly 1 → push (100 refunded). Draw or loss → lose 100.
- AH -0.25 at 1.95, stake 100: Win by 1+ → payout 195. Draw → half-loss (50 returned). Loss → lose 100.
Tips for AH Betting
- Compare AH odds across multiple bookmakers — even small differences in odds compound over time.
- Quarter lines (-0.25, -0.75) offer partial protection — useful when you're not confident in a full goal margin.
- Track closing line value (CLV) to measure whether you're consistently beating the market.
